National Game and Puzzle Week is an American celebration, but at our Somerset Nursing Home in Frome, the tradition has jumped the pond. With a week of games, promoting social interaction, those living in the home decided to spread this tradition by completing an array of puzzles and competing on various board games.
Our Somerset Nursing Home is always enabling those living in the home to carry out exciting activities, thanks to its pioneering model of care, but there was a particular interest and focus on games and puzzles this week.
The benefits of puzzles for those with dementia are very clear. A Cochrane Review showed how puzzles helped to improve memory and cognitive abilities.
Margaret Rhodes, Home Manager for Frome Nursing Home, said “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the games and puzzles, not only the people living here but also the team. It was great to see our ethos of care bringing our family together”.
Frome Nursing Home part of Evolve Care Group supports up to 60 individuals with various nursing and residential needs and is currently recruiting nurses and care workers to join its award winning team.
