Frome Nursing Home is made up of two buildings, Woodlands and Parsonage, which are divided into four smaller households. Each household offers a more personal living environment, where people can share their home with others who have broadly similar care needs while remaining part of the wider community.
A person’s diagnosis or stage of life does not define who they are or where they belong. Instead, time is taken to understand each person’s life history, preferences and individual needs, helping to identify the household where they are most likely to feel comfortable and at home.
Everyday routines are an important part of this approach. Something as ordinary as washing up after lunch or making a cup of tea might seem insignificant, but for someone living with a Dementia, continuing to do these things can mean a great deal. Being able to contribute to daily life, make choices and maintain independence helps people retain their sense of identity and purpose.
By understanding each person’s physical, emotional and cognitive needs, alongside the life they have lived and the routines that matter to them, the team can make thoughtful decisions about which household will best support them as they continue their life at Frome Nursing Home.
