Frome Nursing Home in Somerset recently welcomed some very special guests—a couple of orphaned lambs from Twinnies Petting Farm, bringing a sense of comfort, choice, and connection to residents, fondly referred to as family members.
A Visit That Felt Like Home
The young lambs, including one-week-old Tink, who is being hand-reared after being rejected by his mother, were introduced to family members, including those who preferred to stay in their rooms. Everybody had the choice to interact with the lambs, whether by stroking them, holding them, or simply watching them play.
It was a moment that brought much enjoyment, with the novelty of seeing the lambs exploring, some even dressed in nappies. One family member gently remarked, “He likes me,” and “they are so cute”, while others simply enjoyed the quiet comfort of holding the animals, just as anyone would at home with their pets. For some family members like Bill, Pat, and Brian who were farmers, having small members of livestock around brought a comforting sense of familiarity.
