A Dementia expert from Frome Nursing Home is promoting the use of music to assist those living with the condition. Karen Tidy is a Senior Nurse at Frome Nursing Home, the 60 bed nursing and care home that has recently been rated all Good by Care Quality Commission. She spoke to the BBC about her research and findings and the positive  role music can play within dementia care.

She became interested in music as a therapy tool after noticing the powerful effect it had on people living with dementia. It seems that the memory of music heard as a young person or a teenager, seems to remain  intact, many decades later, even when that person is diagnosed with dementia  and can no longer remember who their friends or family are. Here she talks on BBC Radio Somerset about it.
